Habitus, arctic-alpine. Thallus forming rosettes, thick, dick. Upper surface olive-green when wet, otherwise redbrown. Undersurface bright orange with branched veines. Photobiont Coccomyxa and Nostoc in internal Cephaloides. Apothecia up to 1 cm diameter, darkbrown, flat clinging on the surface, not immersed. Asci of Peltigera-type with 6-8 spores.
